Oldham Boxing & Personal Development Centre
Oldham Boxing & Personal Development Centre
Extensive refurbishment of a large gym and associated offices. This large-scale project, in a busy town centre location, incorporated a complete new roof installation, plus total refit of the interior from floors to ceiling, and all associated services. The entire roof was replaced while protecting the original internal ceiling structure of this historic building.
Internal fitout work completed by H.Bells experienced craftsmen including full new windows, fixtures and finishes to the client's specifications.

Castleton Community Centre and Library
Castleton Community Centre and Library
Extensive refurbishment of a large community centre, requiring a complete strip-out of existing facilities. Repairs to external areas were carried, alongside the complete facelift of the internal spaces. The building is now upgraded for modern use, with more accessible and comfortable rooms for local community users.
The centre has been futureproofed for the community for many years, with many of the building's historic original features reinstated.

Rochdale Infirmary - Suite 6
Rochdale Infirmary - Suite 6
Refurbishment of an outpatient department to create a modern ante-natal facility, including multiple ultrasound rooms, staff areas, waiting rooms and accessible toilets. The entire suite was internally renewed, with upgrades to electrical and plumbing services, restoration of windows and doors, and complete redecoration throughout.
Delivered on a live and busy hospital site, the project was carefully managed with a minimal compound footprint, segregated parking, and zero disruption to ongoing medical services. The result is a high-quality healthcare facility now in constant use by the local community.

Bankfield Lane—Residential Refurb
Bankfield Lane - Residential Youth Care Refurbishment
Refurbishment of a former family home to create a secure residential care setting for young people and their care professionals. The project involved a full internal upgrade, including new flooring, decoration, and infrastructure tailored to provide safe, segmented spaces for residents. Dedicated areas were also created for care staff to work comfortably and securely.
Delivered within a quiet residential neighbourhood, the site was carefully managed with all activity contained within the property boundaries to minimise disruption.

Rochdale Leisure Centre—Thermal Suite
Rochdale Leisure Centre—Thermal Suite
Extensive remodelling of the leisure centre's thermal suite, including the complete removal of the original unisex steam room, sauna and showers, which had suffered wear and tear after a decade of public use. The old facilities were replaced with brand-new modular male and female saunas, steam rooms and showers — enabling simultaneous use by all visitors for the first time.
Careful planning ensured works did not disrupt the gym, swimming pool or main entrance, with site access routed to maintain normal leisure centre operations throughout.

Heywood Cemetery Chapel
Heywood Cemetery Chapel
Repair and sensitive refurbishment of a 19th-century cemetery chapel following extensive arson damage. Works included fitting a new roof, rebuilding large external windows with specialist craftsmen to match the original design, and a full internal refit using traditional skills to complement the historic structure. Modern security measures were discreetly integrated to protect the building without compromising its character.
The restored chapel now provides a safe, welcoming space in keeping with its surroundings and matching the twin building opposite within the cemetery's planted grounds.

Rochdale Housing Solutions
Rochdale Housing Solutions
An extensive repurposing of a large building, which had previously been a retail unit. On a site with restricted access, the H Bell & Sons team undertook a complete refurbishment to deliver new housing offices for Rochdale Borough Council. The offices provide a public reception area with areas for meetings, modern fixtures and a living wall partition. Office accommodation has also been incorporated, with meeting rooms and a staff kitchen plus associated services and IT spaces.
These public-facing offices are now a welcoming space with high-level functionality and comfortable working accommodation.

Denehurst House, Refurbishment
Denehurst House, Refurbishment
Extensive refurbishment and repurposing of a historic former residence into high-quality accommodation for veterans, along with a welcoming community café. The works involved a full internal transformation, carefully retaining heritage features while upgrading the building to modern standards. Living spaces were designed to a high specification, including an accessible apartment for residents with limited mobility.
The café, styled to reflect the building's original grandeur, incorporates a 'changing places' accessible bathroom and provides a community focal point within the grounds.

The Martlet Kitchen, Rochdale Town Hall
The Martlet Kitchen, Rochdale Town Hall
Creation of a destination dining venue within the historic Grade I-listed Rochdale Town Hall, alongside the installation of a fully equipped commercial catering kitchen to support large-scale events. The ground floor now houses the Martlet Kitchen — a stylish, high-quality dining space designed with tasteful interior finishes and sympathetic fittings that respect the building's heritage. Upstairs, a full commercial kitchen and separate bar/meeting space were created to accommodate events for up to 300 guests. Extensive M&E works and bespoke kitchen installations were completed to a high standard, delivering a modern, accessible hospitality offering within one of the town's most iconic landmarks.

Chantlers Primary School Extension, Bury
Chantlers Primary School Extension, Bury
Construction of a new extension to expand facilities at Chantlers Primary School, delivered safely and efficiently during term time without disrupting day-to-day operations. The project included a new classroom, offices, and associated services, seamlessly connected to the existing building. Roofing works were carefully integrated into the school's flat roof system and skylights bring natural daylight into the building, maintaining full weatherproofing throughout.
The completed extension provides a larger, more flexible school environment to support growing pupil numbers.

Storage Facility — Holcombe Moor
Storage Unit—Holcombe Moor
Construction of a new steel-framed storage facility within an active Ministry of Defence site. Works included extensive groundworks, drainage and foundations, followed by the erection of a steel-framed commercial storage building with associated electrical services. Boundary walls, paving and associated marked our parking spaces were provided. Secure doors and roller shutters were installed.
Despite the site's limited footprint, the unit maximises available ground space and was handed over for the client's confidential installation of specialist racking and equipment.

N° 1 Riverside
Conversion and fitout of redundant retail space into Rochdale central registrars and ancillary office space.
Internal fitout work completed by H.Bells experienced craftsmen including all oak panelling, ceiling detail, doors and flooring.

Roach Dynamos Pavilion, Heywood
Roach Dynamos Pavilion, Heywood
Construction of a brand-new sports pavilion to serve Roach Dynamos and the wider community, marking the first time in the site's history that changing and shelter facilities have been available. The works required new utility installations, followed by ground-up construction of a modern, secure building.
The finished pavilion includes changing rooms, kitchens and large meeting space with associated parking that can be used for community events . The surrounding playing fields remained in use throughout the project.

The Bird at Birtle
The Bird at Birtle
New build extension, conversion and refurbishment of a derelict public house into a bespoke gastro pub with large dining facilities and a high quality internal fit out.
Steel frame on piled foundations , zinc cladding and stonework to external elevations with curtain walling providing a open aspect to dining areas. Complete refurbishment and structural upgrade of existing property and internal fitout throughout.

The Bird at Birtle won the Best Small Commercial Project at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards 2019.
